día de los muertos

IMG_7475IMG_7462IMG_7452IMG_7443 Boo!
On Friday was “Día de los Muertos”, the Day of the Dead.
It is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. People built little altars to commemorate the dead, decorated with flowers and “calaveras de azúcar” ("sugar skulls"). So I dressed up as one!
Unfortunately I was in a rush to get to the party so I couldn’t take proper good pics but you get the idea!!
This was my inspiration:

sugary death

IMG_9303IMG_9298 IMG_9302IMG_9304 IMG_9309IMG_9355

I never miss an opportunity to dress up and if I can celebrate Halloween twice, I’ll kindly oblige! ;)

I actually didn’t plan on going anywhere but then my boyfriends friend came over and asked me to do the half-skull make up for him that I wore last year. Then some other friends arrived and decided that they wanted some make up too, so I ended up painting everyones faces. ^^ And while I was at it, I made my own! I always wanted to try out a Sugar Skull look before and since I didn’t have a look planned, I decided to give it a go. Added some green contacts, big flowers and stacked on some jewellery and ready to go!
We went to Oceana, a massive Club in Kingston with 7 themed rooms and space for some 3000 people! It was definately a blast and everyone was dressed up. I got quite a few compliments for my look which can actually be done so easily!

Hope you had a good time. This will be the last Halloween related post, promise. ;)

trick or treat

HALLOWEEN GUURRRLLS! :D

How are you kittens? I’ve been a bit hangover today due to a dreadful combination of Sailor Jerrys and Jägerbombs but I sure head a great night! We went to Big Red, a rock bar I used to work at back in 2008! I love that place. If you go and check out my Facebook page later on, I’ll probably put some more shitty phone pictures on! ;)

As I said before, I was looking for a wedding dress everywhere because I wanted to go as Emily from Corpse Bride but they were all so expensive so I ended up not knowing what to go as. Friday night this idea popped into my head – made out of only things I already had! A lot of people couldn’t guess what I was going as – so in case you are wondering: I’m a lion tamer who got her eye scratched out! :D

I was going to leave my hair open but then it felt too boring for Halloween! So I just pinned it up randomly! :D

What did you go as? Or what are you planning for Halloween?

HALLOWEEN LEUTEEE! :D

Als was seid ihr gegangen? Oder was plant ihr für morgen?

vintage pick ‘n’ mix

Hello Lovelies! ^^

When it comes to any event happening in East London, Kerstin is my top insider. A couple of days ago, she posted about 2 Vintage events that were taking place around Shoreditch today. So although she couldn’t come ‘cause she was working, I had to check them out.  When I left the house this morning to go to the Vintage Pick ‘n Mix event, the sun was shining and there was not one cloud in the sky.

The event was in Hanbury Street, close to the Truman brewery where the Up Market is taking place every Sunday. The idea was that you would get one kilo of clothes for just 15 quid so I skimmed through endless racks of vintage clothes and ended up getting so many nice things. I was over 1kg because of the coat you can see in these pics (it’s green IRL, dunno why it looks grey on the photos…) so he gave me all together for £20! The coat is probably the best buy, it’s huge but I love it! PLUS the weather turned cloudy and colder later today so it saved me from freezing!

Back in Brick Lane a girl was handing out flyers for a second kilo sale I didn’t know about just off Brick Lane so I had to go and check it out too… and came out with another 2 bags for £15 cause they had a “buy one kg get one free” deal going on! How cool is that?

Initially I planned on going to the Dalston Vintage Fair too but with 2 kg of clothes in each hand I was only thinking about getting home. People must have thought I am homeless, carrying all my belongings with me haha!

Now I’ve got to hurry to get ready for Halloween, my costume is a last minute idea from yesterday, I’ll show you tomorrow! ;)

empty handed

060

Huhu!

If you are following me on twitter, you might have already heard me contemplating about leaving the house today yesterday. As it turned out I was feeling much better this morning and since the weather today can only be called spectacular (probably a good 15-17 degrees and a clear blue sky) I made my way down east to the vintage thrift store.

They were promoting on facebook that they had a “vintage poundshop” thing going on, with items from £1 - £5. When I arrived today the “pound shop section” looked like a battlefield with items scattered all over the floor and all the nice things were gone. I suppose you have to come the first day for promos like this. The shop itself has a really lovely collection of vintage clothes and I would have bought half of it if it wasn’t a bit pricey for my taste considering most of it is unbranded and in worn condition.

Anyways, my main goal today was to find a wedding dress for Halloween (and since it’s the end of the month I don’t really have money to spend on random clothes) so I left the shop empty handed.

While I was already there I met up with Kerstin, a fellow blogger I met through Kleiderkreisel who lives around the area, to stroll along Brick Lane. I completely forgot how packed it is on a sunday, all the shops and streets were crammed full of people. My search for an Emily worthy wedding dress remained unsucessful but at least we had a good day browsing through the stalls. I ended up buying some Levis cut offs for a tenner, partly because I hate leaving Brick Lane without buying anything.

I must say that the prices are getting a bit ridiculous though. Back in 2008 when I first came to Brick Lane you could easlily find some great vintage leather bags for 10 quid and some lovely dresses for less than that. Now they are pretty much ripping people off; some worn out sweater for £20? Well no thanks, I’d rather go to the charity shop down the street and get it for £4. I even found a worn down, partly ripped seafoam blue dress that would have been great for Halloween but the lady had the guts to ask £45 for it. You should have seen it, it was so run down and dirty, I wouldn’t even pay a tenner for that.

At last we got some photobooth shots that are a bit of a must-do when you are in Brick Lane with friends:

boo hoo!

IMG_5900IMG_5921IMG_5907IMG_6047

Hey guys!
Sorry for neglecting the blog a little bit lately but life is crazy atm! First of all Uni has started last week and we are already working on our projects like crazy; first hand in the week after next week…

Apart from that I’ve been working quite a lot lately, trying to do as many shifts as possible on my days off and on the weekends. I really, really love that job; you get to meet so many people and see so many cool places, I haven’t had one shift that I didn’t like. And I haven’t droped anything… yet. Lol. I am working tomorrow again, outside of London in Shropshire (where ever that may be). Apparently it’s a 3 hrs drive but we get paid as soon as we are on the bus and even get to stay in a Hotel overnight before we get back on sunday. Always up for free Hotel nights! :D

So yeah, I’ll try my best to get a few more posts up the following days. It’s not like I wouldn’t know what to post, I’ve got tons of things up my sleeve! Outfit pics are a bit of a problem though cause the light is beginning to fade quicker these days and my appartment has never been on the bright sight to start with! An imaginary clap for this incredible pun please! ^^

Let’s get to the main purpose of this post – HALLOWEEN!!!

As you can see in these pictures, last year I went as a “half” skeleton. The make up was acompanied by skeleton gloves, jewellery and an overall gothic style. I must admit, I really do love the make up and I would do it again this year but that really isn’t that much fun, right? Especially since I love dressing up as something so much… ^^

So now I have to think of something else. Obviously it has to be something “scary”/halloweenesque and it shouldn’t be too expensive but very creative. I was thinking of Corpse Bride (the movie) but since I am not really stick thin I don’t know if it would look good… maybe a Zombie bride in general with a torn veil and all that jazz? Where can I get a cheap wedding dress? Other ideas?

Your help would be much appreciated. ;)

Huhu!

Jetzt muss ich mir was anderes einfallen lassen.
